Sorting Through Healthy Food Claims

I was sitting at my dining table the other day, glancing through some magazines while eating, when I turned the page of a health magazine. The title on that page made me stop and try to digest what it said. “10 Foods to Help You Live a Longer, Healthier life.” There on the page were pictures of Blueberries, Almonds, Apples, Spinach, Sweet Potatoes, etc. “Huh.” I wondered.

So I grabbed another magazine and randomly opened it. There, at the bottom of the page was an ad. “Strengthen Your heart, Prevent strokes when you eat…..” “Well,” I thought, and I started to open magazines at random. On every other page were ads touting:

Vitamins for the Mind…..

New Found Drug gets rid of wrinkles…..

Food of the Gods…….

Lower your blood pressure by…….

“Mysterious” Bioenergetic Medicine gives you….

Confused yet?

And so on and so on. I thought, with all that new and healthy food I’m eating, I should be the healthiest, longest living person on earth. What’s wrong with this picture?

It’s true, there are foods that harm and foods that heal and knowing the difference can make the difference in having a good day or a miserable day, they can make a difference in being healthy and vibrant or having health issues and feeling exhausted.

So, how do you determine what foods are the foods that heal or the foods that harm, and which supplements to take, that make an impact in your life today?  Simply put, eat real food!  Eating never used to be so difficult!  People never used to portion their plates out, calculate how many calories they were eating or divide up their meal into percentages of carbs, fats and protein.  None of that is necessary if you are eating the right foods to begin with.  .

As soon as all of the processed foods came out and the new and improved foods to make you “healthy” were developed, we started to have issues with our weight and our health.   But not only that, we have stopped sitting down to enjoy our meals and enjoy our lives.
